RED LEAF LETTUCE
our organic & conventional red leaf lettuce
Like all the loose leaf lettuces, red leaf lettuce does not grow in a tight head. Instead, the leaves fan out from a central core and are wide with a curly top. The color is deep shades of red and green, and the flavor is mild and nutty, with an earthier undertone than green leaf lettuce. The tender texture is hard to beat making it perfect for salads, wraps, and sandwiches. Red leaf lettuce is packed with vitamins A, K, C, B6, manganese, folate, iron, and potassium.
our growing program
Our organic red leaf program runs September through June. Our conventional program runs year-round. Our organic product is supplied in 12ct and 24ct flip sleeve, bib ties, or naked packs. Conventionally, we harvest red leaf lettuce in 12ct, 18ct, and 24ct packs with flip sleeves, bib ties, and naked. Pure Pacific Organic and Pacific labels ensure you’re choosing a high-quality and safe product.
shopping
Look for deep green leaves with red edges. The leaf lettuce should have crisp leaves and no pink ribs. Avoid heads with wilted, limp, or excessively broken leaves.
storing
Rinse with cold water and pat dry. Wrap in a dry paper towel and place in a storage container. Placing in the vegetable crisper in the fridge will ensure moisture stays at a good level to avoid wilting.
preparing
Pull and snap off the leaves from its core and rinse under cold water. Pat each leaf dry. Tear leaves for a salad, keep whole to add to a sandwich or burger, or use as a wrap.
